CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A new report says there are over 7,800 nonprofit organizations in New Hampshire and that one in eight New Hampshire workers is employed by them.

The report, the first of its kind by the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits, also says $8 billion in revenue is contributed by nonprofits to the state’s gross domestic product. That’s 14.5% of the total.

The report, released Thursday, says the largest number of nonprofits are in the health care and human services categories, followed by public and societal benefit, education and the arts. Nearly 78% of the state’s nonprofits report revenue of less than $100,000.

The report says the nonprofit sector has grown more than 50% over the past 15 years and that groups experience competition in funding, volunteers and leaders. Other challenges includes pending retirements of executive leaders within the next six years and an unstable funding environment.

Note: Why do we get the sneaking suspicion that this report was done to explore ways to tax these groups? Suffice to say CNHT does not make enough money to report or tax nor does it have any paid employees. CNHT does not take government handouts or give or get PAC money, and is not a PAC itself. We are 100% grassroots taxpayer help group, funded by individual donors, and have only two or three expenses: our office, our radio show, and a tiny amount for hosting our website. No volunteers are paid even when they work tirelessly 7 days per week.
