An excellent commentary on the push for sales and income taxes for NH by the Granite State Fair Tax Coalition [ which is neither local, NH-funded, nor fair ] appeared in the Telegraph. The writer remarked:

Last Sunday, a guest commentary claimed New Hampshire’s revenue structure is “outdated.” When did that happen?

One had to read beyond all the preparatory verbiage to recognize this was not a call for something good. Checking the writer’s bio confirmed it.

She belongs to the Granite State Fair Tax Coalition. That name says it all. “Fair Tax” is an oft-touted euphemism for “Higher Tax.” You’ll notice those who advocate higher taxation are ambiguous about it. They can’t convey that intent with honesty. People would reject it. Instead, advocates approach the subject indirectly, slowly revealing its true nature through pro-tax rationale that ends with a dire warning of some sort.
