At the urging of the wife of Governor Lynch, the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee is being urged to recommend HB 1479 which would requiring that body mass index be assessed in all pupils in grades one, 4, 7, and 10.
This is a gross invasion of privacy.
Public schools are NOT the place to do health assessments of this type. Some children, who may be the beneficiaries of perfectly balanced diets and are not allowed to eat between meals or have sugary or starchy foods, but are naturally chubby might be subject to unnecessary restrictions on their food intake and be hurt physically as a result.
The hearing is January 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the LOB Room 207.
Contact the Committee and ask that they OPPOSE this outrageous bill.
