Litchfield’s former town treasurer was indicted this week on charges that he embezzled more than $145,000 from the town and a private company.

Horace Seymour III, 50, of 13 Mike Lane, has been free on bail since his arrest in March, one day before the town elections. He is scheduled to be arraigned on two felony theft charges on July 10 in Hillsborough County Superior Court.

One of the charges alleges that Seymour skimmed a total of approximately $145,000 from town bank accounts from November 2005 through March. A second charge alleges that he misappropriated checks totaling $2,497.35 issued to Masstech, Inc., in 2005 and 2006. Masstech is a privately held company based in Maryland that makes mass spectrometers and other analytic equipment. Seymour has declined to comment on the charges, but his lawyer has said he expects that Seymour will eventually be found innocent.

Seymour initially was charged with stealing just over $5,000 from the town, by submitting a phony bill for security equipment at Talent Hall.
