Get Ready for Municipal and School TAX CAPS

Tax advocates can now by law, put in place tax caps for TOWNS. The deadline is January 10, 2012.

Only 25 signatures, or 2% of registered voters, whichever is less, is required for petitioned warrant articles. See excerpts below.

39:3 Articles. – Upon the written application of 25 or more registered voters or 2 percent of the registered voters in town, whichever is less, although in no event shall fewer than 10 registered voters…

197:6 Warrant and Articles. – Upon the written application of 25 or more voters or 2 percent of the voters of the school district, whichever is less, although in no event shall fewer than 10 registered voters…

Residents can use these attached petitions as examples. These are the forms that are being used for two petitioned warrant articles for a 0% tax cap for Gilford, NH.
