{"id":864,"date":"2009-10-06T19:30:38","date_gmt":"2009-10-06T23:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/?p=864"},"modified":"2017-12-18T16:16:29","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T21:16:29","slug":"lynch-signs-un-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2009\/10\/06\/lynch-signs-un-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"Lynch Signs UN Agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>October 2, 2009<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/content.undp.org\/go\/newsroom\/2009\/october\/30-global-leaders-sign-declaration-in-advance-of-next-climate-agreement.en\">United Nations Development Programme Newsroom<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Agreements reached at Summit send powerful message to negotiators in Copenhagen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and United Nations officials today joined with 30 global leaders in Los Angeles, at the closing ceremony of the Governors\u2019 Global Climate Summit 2 to sign a declaration committing to work together to pursue clean transportation and mobility, <strong>support national climate change legislation<\/strong>, include forests in climate policy development, acknowledge the need for adaptation efforts and recognize the role of subnational governments in the discussions on the next global climate agreement being negotiated in Copenhagen this December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAddressing the problems caused by climate change is the greatest environmental challenge of our time and at this summit we heard leaders and experts from around the globe discuss the innovative steps and strategies being championed in the fight against global warming,\u201d said Governor Schwarzenegger. \u201cWe have deepened our partnerships and renewed our commitment to work collaboratively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a cleaner planet and stronger economy for the next generation. In signing this declaration we are sending a powerful message to the national leaders negotiating the next global climate agreement that we are ready for action. The time to act is now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governors\u2019 Global Climate Summit clearly demonstrated the key role local and state governments can play in addressing climate change.
