{"id":8506,"date":"2019-06-26T10:49:32","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T15:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/?p=8506"},"modified":"2019-06-26T10:53:40","modified_gmt":"2019-06-26T15:53:40","slug":"governor-sununu-do-you-hear-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2019\/06\/26\/governor-sununu-do-you-hear-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Sununu Do You Hear Us?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor has so far been ignoring our pleas and hundreds of petitions to VETO SB 241, the commuter rail boondoggle bill which passed both Houses along party lines.<\/p>\n<p>Despite misleading reports citing a million people want MBTA commuter rail extended to Concord, the majority of NH know it\u2019s a boondoggle. But are they aware of SB 241 and that they too need to contact the Governor\u2019s office (271-2121) and ask that he veto that bill?<\/p>\n<p>Lobbyists are spreading disinformation. It will not be \u201chigh speed\u201d and definitely not \u201cfree\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The MBTA has the second worst safety record in the country, with 45 derailments in 5 years, including four this year alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Privatization is a part of it (aka PPPs) but sending $10.8 million a year to Boston and Paris will not generate \u201ctremendous economic benefits\u201d, amounting to hundreds of million dollars, in NH.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Ridership between Mass and Concord would not be enough to support the cost of daily maintenance and operation per NH DOT study, and would require a new broad-based tax. The idea that 1.33 million NH residents who work at lower paying in-state jobs should pay, involuntarily, for rail that would make commuting a little bit cushier for 0.001284 million residents to their higher paying out-of-state jobs is outrageous.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Former State Senator Dan Innis has Tweeted that commuter rail to Concord would be \u201cfree\u201d. He also misquoted the estimated number of riders as 670K per week when that number was estimated to be 670K per year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet-300x61.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"61\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet-300x61.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet-768x155.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet-1024x207.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet-1080x218.png 1080w, https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Innis_Tweet.png 1178w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NHRTA is essentially a taxpayer-funded lobbyist for rail. We\u2019re tired of having our tax dollars used in such a biased way.<\/p>\n<p>Dick Lemieux, a retired highway engineer and transportation planner, reminded us that <em>\u201cif the state spends federal money on preliminary engineering then fails to follow through with construction, the state has to pay the money back. Nobody is telling the Legislature that. Lobbyists are telling them there\u2019s no harm in spending federal money on boondoggles. The harm is that NH taxpayers would be left holding the bag for operating losses in the millions per year. And that money would all go to MBTA, a widely acknowledged corrupt organization.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Please contact the Governor\u2019s office (271-2121) and tell him to stick with his party and veto SB 241.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If the Governor does not listen, will this be the way he breaks his \u201cno new income tax\u201d promise to the people of NH?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor has so far been ignoring our pleas and hundreds of petitions to VETO SB 241, the commuter rail boondoggle bill which passed both Houses along party lines.
