{"id":7388,"date":"2018-01-24T20:40:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T01:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/?p=7388"},"modified":"2018-01-24T20:40:00","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T01:40:00","slug":"newton-kingston-taxpayers-accomplishments-for-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2018\/01\/24\/newton-kingston-taxpayers-accomplishments-for-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Newton-Kingston Taxpayers Accomplishments for 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2017: ELECTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our own NKTA president, James Baker, was elected for the Newton School<br \/>\nBoard seat.<\/p>\n<p>NKTA supported Tammy Mahoney who was elected to the at-large School Board<br \/>\nseat. <\/p>\n<p>NKTA supported Mary Cyr was elected to a seat on the Budget Committee and NKTA supported Jim Doggett was re-elected, unopposed, to his seat on the Budget Committee. <\/p>\n<p>With the strength of NKTA supported candidates, the chairmanship of the School board changed hands 2017. We also now have a new school administration that is more open and willing to listen to voters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VOTER EDUCATION <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>5 education videos on the town budget processes (see below) were created  and run on the Newton Town Cable station. (note: Kingston cable station is not yet operational so we have not yet been able to run in Kingston)<\/p>\n<p>These are posted on You Tube (You tube channel is NK Taxpayers) <\/p>\n<p> \t* Sanborn School District<br \/>\n \t* School District Budgeting Process<br \/>\n \t* Property Tax Setting<br \/>\n \t* Default Budget<br \/>\n \t* Deliberative Session<\/p>\n<p>2 NKTA Mailers went to all town addresses for both Kingston and Newton. <\/p>\n<p>Commissioner of Ed, Frank Edelblut, met with NKTA members on his perspectives on education in NH.<\/p>\n<p>Many studies and analysis get posted to our website. <\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMUNITY EVENTS <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NKTA participated in the following activities: <\/p>\n<p>Kingston Days<br \/>\nNewton Olde Home Day<br \/>\nKingston Trunk or Treat<br \/>\nNewton Trunk or Treat <\/p>\n<p><strong>SCHOLARSHIP FUND <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NKTA created a scholarship fund, that was funded by separate donations and fundraising.  The first $500 scholarship was awarded last year and 2018 Scholarship award is already fully funded. <\/p>\n<p>Please help us to continue to have a positive impact in our communities by becoming a member of the NKTA. <\/p>\n<p>Membership dues can be submitted to our PO address, or through Paypal <\/p>\n<p>Make checks payable to:<br \/>\nNEWTON-KINGSTON TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION<br \/>\nP.O.
