{"id":661,"date":"2009-05-21T00:46:27","date_gmt":"2009-05-21T04:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/?p=661"},"modified":"2017-12-18T16:23:54","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T21:23:54","slug":"taxes-and-more-taxes-hb-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2009\/05\/21\/taxes-and-more-taxes-hb-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Taxes and More Taxes (HB 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HB2, the companion bill to the state budget, is not only fiscally irresponsible during these difficult economic times, but it calls for many radical tax hikes that will affect every family in New Hampshire.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Specifically, HB2:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*Calls for a NEW Capital Gains Tax of 5% &#8211; affects every family saving for college or retirement<br \/>\n*Calls for a NEW Inheritance Tax (also known as the &#8220;death tax&#8221;) of 8% &#8211; affects every family after coping with the loss of a loved one!<br \/>\n<strong>*Increases the gas tax by 15 cents over the next 3 years &#8211; affects every family who drives a car!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition:<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Democrat budget is an INCREASE over the last biennial budget by 11%<br \/>\nThe Democrat budget raises new taxes without the full legislative process of committee and floor votes in the form of capital gains income tax of 5% and \u201cdeath\u201d tax of 8%<br \/>\nThe Democrat budget taxes gambling winnings at 10%<br \/>\n<strong>The Democrat budget raises the gas tax by 15 cents<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The Democrat budget increases the rooms and meals tax by nearly 10%<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Democrat budget raises the cigarette tax for the 4th time in 5 years<br \/>\nThe Democrat budget does NOT include school construction aid<br \/>\nThe Democrat budget raids the JUA medical fund of $60 million in the next biennium, raising serious legal and fairness questions<br \/>\n<strong>The Democrat budget irresponsibly SPENDS money and RAISES TAXES in a time of recession<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The Democrat Budget will cost $133 million in additional property taxes to be paid by our constituents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>HB2 was passed 182-165 along party lines. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gencourt.state.nh.us\/bill_status\/Roll_Calls\/billstatus_billrollcalls.aspx?lsr=1049&#038;sy=2009&#038;lb=H&#038;sortoption=&#038;txtsessionyear=2009&#038;txtbillnumber=hb2\">See who voted (Yea)<\/a> for this bloated budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Republican budget would do these things;<\/p>\n<p>The Republican budget spends 2.6% LESS than the previous biennial budget<br \/>\nThe Republican budget funds essential state services while living within existing revenues<br \/>\nThe Republican budget creates NO NEW TAXES and RAISED NO EXISTING TAXES<br \/>\nThe Republican budget suggests some cuts in ALL departments and branches over the coming biennium<br \/>\nThe Republican budget fully funds our responsibility of state revenue sharing with local municipalities<br \/>\nThe Republican budget restores $83 million in school construction aid<br \/>\nThe Republican budget does not raid the JUA medical fund in the coming biennium<br \/>\nThe Republican budget leaves us with more than $50 million in the Rainy Day Fund at the end of the biennium<\/p>\n<p>Please contact the members of the Finance Committee:<\/p>\n<p>Sen.
