{"id":616,"date":"2009-02-19T10:34:56","date_gmt":"2009-02-19T14:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/?p=616"},"modified":"2017-11-21T13:40:51","modified_gmt":"2017-11-21T18:40:51","slug":"student-elected-to-local-office-hows-that-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2009\/02\/19\/student-elected-to-local-office-hows-that-working\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Elected to Local Office &#8211; How&#8217;s That Working?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If there is any danger to allowing out-of-state college students to vote, a bigger one is allowing them to run for local offices about which they have no knowledge or interest.<\/p>\n<p>One such incidence of this happened last November when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2008\/11\/13\/election-of-student-raises-questions\/\">Vanessa Sievers<\/a>, a resident from Big Sky, Montana, placed her name on the ballot to run for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.co.grafton.nh.us\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grafton County, NH Treasurer<\/a>, and was elected as a side benefit of the large student vote that is generally under Democrat influence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelittlegreenblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/its-about-that-time.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">County Officials, some who are Democrats, are concerned that she lacks commitment because she has failed to invest $10 MILLION in County Funds of which she is in charge, losing money daily for the County.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They also complain about her having missed various meetings and being too dependent on email.<br \/>\nAt CNHT we wonder &#8212; how does this square with current transparency laws?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If there is any danger to allowing out-of-state college students to vote, a bigger one is allowing them to run for local offices about which they have no knowledge or interest.
