A &#8220;smart meter&#8221; is an  &#8220;advanced metering infrastructure device using radio or other wireless means for 2-way communication between the device and a public utility or electric utility but lacks the capability of a smart meter gateway device.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gencourt.state.nh.us\/legislation\/2013\/HB0454.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HB 454<\/a> provides that a homeowner shall give his or her consent before &#8220;an electric utility may install a smart meter in such person\u2019s home or business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There is no date set for a hearing before the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gencourt.state.nh.us\/house\/committees\/committeedetails.aspx?code=H24\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">House Science, Technology and Energy Committee<\/a> but meanwhile you can write to them to express your opinion.<\/p>\n<p>Please SUPPORT this bill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bill has been proposed to allow NH residents to opt out of smart meter installation.
