The school district that includes Northwood severed ties with its superintendent last week, halfway through her two-year contract.<\/p>\n
District officials confirmed that Judith McGann is no longer employed by SAU 44, which includes schools in Northwood, Nottingham and Strafford. No one would disclose details of McGann’s termination yesterday. McGann’s number is unlisted, and other attempts to contact her for comment were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
McGann’s dismissal comes a few weeks after the resignation of business manager William Tappan. School board members from all three towns plan to meet this evening to determine how to fill the leadership void.<\/strong><\/p>\n “Right now, everyone is doing their jobs,” said Colleen Pingree, chairwoman of Northwood’s school board. “We’re meeting tonight to move forward on a plan of action.”<\/p>\n Board members, she added, have been dropping by the district offices to see if the staff needs any help. The district’s website carries a posting for the business administrator’s position.<\/p>\n McGann’s contract gives her 20 days to appeal the board’s action. The two-year agreement, signed in June 2007, gives the board the authority to terminate her for “immortality, incompetence, insubordination or failure on the part of the superintendent to conform to, abide by and\/or properly implement the laws of the state of New Hampshire, the rules and regulations of the state board of education, the policies and regulations of the SAU and\/or the policies and regulation of the local school boards within the SAU.”<\/p>\n Under the contract, the district also has to continue paying McGann her salary – about $94,000 this year – until she finds another job or the school year ends. <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" From the Concord Monitor The school district that includes Northwood severed ties with its superintendent last week, halfway through her two-year contract.
