{"id":1819,"date":"2011-03-16T12:40:08","date_gmt":"2011-03-16T17:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/?p=1819"},"modified":"2017-12-07T15:31:19","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T20:31:19","slug":"victory-for-claremont","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnht.org\/news\/2011\/03\/16\/victory-for-claremont\/","title":{"rendered":"Victory for Claremont"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Claremont taxpayers won another victory on Friday, March 11, 2011 when the NH Supreme Court ruled against a revote for the Claremont School District $22.9 Million High School Bond.<\/p>\n<p>Claremont is one of the highest tax cities in NH, and a bond would have even caused more of a burden on the residents.  In addition, with the loss of state building aid which was projected at 60% would have added more cost to the taxpayers. <\/p>\n<p>From the beginning, the voters knew best when the vote failed by ONE vote.  Yet, the school board decided to petition the superior court for a revote, and it was denied by Judge Mangones.  Then, a second time, a motion for reconsideration was filed, and it too was denied on the grounds that an emergency did not exist.  Then, the lower court&#8217;s decision was appealed to the supreme court.  Then, the NH Supreme Court reinforced the lower court&#8217;s decision.  Most of all, the will of the people prevailed over the legislative body and judicial body.<\/p>\n<p>For anyone who is considering not voting, this is a true lesson that one vote does make a difference.
