Burt Cohen, D-New Castle, pleaded guilty to a federal charge of filing false campaign reports.<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Burchfield, 32, disappeared shortly after the Federal Election Commission began asking about discrepancies in Cohen\u2019s campaign finance reports. At one point, there was approximately $200,000 in campaign funds unaccounted for.<\/p>\n<p>The questions raised by the federal investigation took Cohen out of the race against incumbent Judd Gregg, and Democrats were forced to go with 94-year-old activist Doris &#8220;Granny D&#8221; Haddock.<\/p>\n<p>Haddock lost to Gregg by 30 percentage points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Seacoast Online Archive The man who derailed the 2004 Senate campaign of former state Sen.
