For Immediate Release:

CNHT Demands Transparency Regarding Common Core
Parents and Taxpayers Not Getting Questions Answered

The Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers is outraged that Manchester Superintendent Debra Livingston has refused to answer questions posed by parents and taxpayers, regarding the implementation of Common Core Standards in Manchester schools.

The Curriculum & Instruction Committee asked Livingston to provide written answers to these questions. Parents and taxpayers expected answers prior to Monday, September 16th when the Committee plans to vote on Common Core. Instead of answers, Assistance Superintendent David Ryan will give a Power Point presentation, extolling the virtues of Common Core.

The NH School Board Association has also posed questions regarding the Common Core Initiatives to officials at NH Department of Education. The Association wanted clarity as to fiscal impact upon local school districts. They too hoped that answers would be forthcoming. However, their questions also remain unanswered.

This deliberate lack of transparency is disturbing. Parents and taxpayers have a right to understand the fiscal impact of educational reforms before they’re adopted in their local districts.

The Coalition of NH Taxpayers echoes the concerns of the NH School Board Association in its September 13th letter to the NH Board of Education over “the erosion of local school board / district governance by both the State and US Departments of Education.”

The letter can be seen here:
Letter to NH Dept of Ed

The implementation of the Common Core appears to be a blitzkrieg, a massive educational reform advancing across the country, belittling parents and taxpayers who question the decision to impose national standards upon our schools.
