A bill has been proposed to allow NH residents to opt out of smart meter installation. A “smart meter” is an “advanced metering infrastructure device using radio or other wireless means for 2-way communication between the device and a public utility or electric utility but lacks the capability of a smart meter gateway device.”

HB 454 provides that a homeowner shall give his or her consent before “an electric utility may install a smart meter in such person’s home or business.”

There is no date set for a hearing before the House Science, Technology and Energy Committee but meanwhile you can write to them to express your opinion.
