Secretary of State nixes voter registration effort as against the law
(Submitted by Hollis residents Tuesday October 23)

Today (October 22), it was disclosed on the Hollis-Brookline High School’s website in the daily announcements section that there were plans to register Brookline students this week on campus during their lunch period in order that they might vote in the upcoming election. The 10th grade Civics teachers contacted both Hollis and Brookline Town Clerks to ask if they would be willing to register students who were 18 years of age and US citizens.

The Hollis Town Clerk declined their invitation.

At the suggestion of some of the residents, the Brookline Town Clerk contacted the NH Secretary of State, and was told that by law she is restricted from registering Brookline voters in Hollis.

Immediately, the Brookline Town Clerk contacted the school to cancel the voter registration event and the announcement was removed from the website. The Brookline Town Clerk thanked the residents for bringing this important matter to her attention.

If you are interested in registering to vote for the upcoming election, please contact your local town clerk for more information.
