GILFORD — A local political activist filed suit Wednesday in an effort to get a judge to order the Gilford School Board to eliminate the position of school superintendent.

Doug Lambert filed the petition in Belknap County Superior Court on Wednesday with Kevin Leandro and David R. Horvath as co-plaintiffs.

The legal action states that in December 1998 the School Board “contradicted”the decision by voters the preceding March to approve creation of a School Administrative Unit for Gilford alone to be led by a “school administrator,” a position which the plaintiffs say is different from a superintendent. The petition goes on to state that School Board is further ignoring the results of a vote last March in which the majority said they wanted the School District conform to the administrative setup set forth prior to the March 1998 vote creating the Gilford-only SAU.

“As the beginning of the school year draws near, members of the Gilford School Board face a lawsuit filed by three residents over the hiring of the school superintendent.

Doug Lambert, David Horvath and Kevin Leandro filed suit in Belknap County Superior Court Wednesday, Aug. 17, seeking an order for the school board to comply with the original administrative model developed in 1998, when Gilford schools split from the Laconia school district.”
