A Massachusetts couple was fine $18,000 for supposedly violating the NH Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act on their lakefront property in NH after making alterations to their property for the purpose of making it more livable.

“CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A Massachusetts couple has been fined $18,500 for violating New Hampshire’s wetlands regulations and shoreland protection act.

State environmental services officials said Monday that Richard and Colleen Lefebvre of Tewksbury, Mass., dredged and filled several areas at their New Hampshire home in Springfield on Palazzi Pond without a permit. Officials said they installed a culvert in an area where a stream flows part of the year, failed to properly install and maintain erosion controls and failed to maintain a woodland buffer on Palazzi Pond, which also is known as Bog Pond.

Half the fine is due by March 29. Half was suspended contingent upon the site being restored.”

If the federal government has its way, soon it will control every puddle on every property, public or private, by way of the Clean Water Restoration Act, Senate Bill 787.

NH Senator Jeanne Shaheen is a co-sponsor.
