Truth About IB

Editor’s Note: This is just one aspect of the attempt to internationalize our citizens; working through our educational system either by federal mandate or insidious programs such as this one that claim to be superior but acutually have no proven track record.

Last week I had the privilege of appearing on Glenn Beck’s special on 9/12 Moms. Unfortunately, a full half hour of the show was pre-empted by Obama speaking in Pittsburgh. Fortunately, Beck is re-running the show today at 5:00 PM, EST.

I have never been on camera before, and not all of the words in my head came out of my mouth. I’m much better at writing than speaking in public. So I want to share with concerned Americans the dangers of this so called “rigorous and prestigious” educational program that is infiltrating school districts around the country at great expense to American taxpayers and also at the greater expense of our childrens’ education.

International Baccalaureate, or IB, was created by a group of international educators working with UNESCO. When IB came under attack for its affiliation with UNESCO, representatives backed away from the charge, even going so far as to produce a document called Myths vs. Facts in an attempt to distance itself from the UN.

On average, this program costs at least $200,000 per school per year to run. This is $200,000 of your tax dollars going towards indoctrination of children in a secular humanist ideology that seeks to undermine Judeo-Christian values. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, IBO operates under Swiss law and claims it does not have to reveal the salaries of its executives the way American non-profits do.

I have spent the last five years researching this program. My research has led me to intense interaction with Washington Post and Newsweek education reporter Jay Mathews. Mr. Mathews wrote a book called: Supertest – How the International Baccalaureate can Strengthen Our Schools. I appear in Chapter 45, Rousseau in Locust Valley. But here is the important part – Mathews’ co-author is Ian Hill, the Deputy Director General of IBO. The book was published by Open Court, which is owned by Blouke Carus, an IBNA board member. Mathews was clearly paid to produce a positive book about IB. He continues to be the American media mouthpiece for IB through his constant references to IB in his WAPO articles and his insidious, worthless, Best High Schools List in Newsweek. School districts around the country, particularly those which have invested untold millions in IB, use this List as a badge of honor to justify the expense. Districts like my own in Locust Valley, NY, even go so far as to dedicate a page on their website to the Newsweek List.

Despite five years of interaction with Mr. Mathews who directly requested the IB executive salaries from his IB buddies and was refused, and intense objection to the program in my own district, I have been unable to oust the program and restore our once fine Advanced Placement (AP) offerings. I do believe I have been effective in preventing other districts in my county from being suckered into buying this program, among them Glen Cove and Garden City. Five years ago, the IB representative who spoke before an audience of approximately 100 parents told us, “ALL of the TOP schools on Long Island are CLAMORING for IB.” Well, five years later and there are still only two out of 54 SD’s in Nassau County which have purchased this godawful program. Neither Locust Valley or Rockville Centre which has had IB for 20 years, are considered among the top school districts on Long Island.

The 9/12 movement has brought new awareness to all of the scams and corruption being perpetrated by “non-profits” funded by our taxdollars. IB stands to glom hundreds of MILLIONS of our tax dollars through the stimulus bill. Obama’s endorsement of IB can be traced back to 1998 when he sat on the Annenberg Challenge board with Bill Ayers. At that time, there was only one IB school in Chicago. Currently, there are 26 IB schools in Chicago, none of which have met the Illinois state benchmarks for improvement. Here is the original Annenberg funding. You will find an IB MYP program funded, a few lines after ACORN.

This is no conspiracy theory. We have seen how this President panders to the UN, the IMF and the World Bank. Help me stop this corrupt organization before it gets a stronger foothold in this country and in the minds of our children. Write to Glenn Beck, ask him to do a full investigation on IB. Keep your ears open for indications that your school district is considering bringing in this program. This is indoctrination of the worst kind at your expense.
